Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Ending Explained
The finale kills two major characters, spares three, and then refuses to answer the only question everyone is asking. Here is what actually happens, and what the evidence supports.

The Short Answer
The season ends with most of the main cast alive. Weak, Talia and Roman survive. Kiril and Kyoko die. Avida dies earlier, in episode 8. D's fate is deliberately left unresolved — he flies toward a light in the sky with Capri and the show cuts away before showing what happens.
That is not a tease for a third season. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor has said he knows what happens to the characters afterwards but is not sharing it, which suggests the ambiguity is the intended reading rather than a marketing hook.
Who Survives the Finale
| Character | Outcome | How |
|---|---|---|
| Weak Kingsley | Survives | Avida's urn stops the rounds that hit him |
| Talia Yang | Survives | Stripped of most chrome; leaves for rehab with Weak |
| Roman Carax | Survives | Uninjured; keeps filming |
| D | Unresolved | Flies toward a light with Capri; show cuts away |
| Capri | Whole again | Reunited with her other half; leaves with D |
| Kiril Yang | Dies | Killed in the Badlands when his transport goes down |
| Kyoko | Dies | Triggers the EMP and is fatally injured by debris |
| Avida Yang | Already dead | Shot in episode 8 during the Soulkiller heist |
The one thing to be careful about is Talia. Episode 9's installation is not an erasure, and D pulls her free in episode 10. Any summary that says Capri completely overwrote her is wrong, and you will see that mistake in a lot of recap coverage published on premiere day.
Does D Die at the End?
The show does not say. What it does is give you enough material to argue either way, which is not the same as being vague for its own sake.
The case that he dies
- He reflects on David Martinez's final moments immediately before his own last stand, which is a structural echo the show has been building since episode 4.
- His last gesture is a smile into Roman's camera — a farewell, framed as a goodbye.
- Omi's only comment afterwards is that he “went out with a bang”, which reads as an epitaph.
- Capri points him at a light in the sky, which in this franchise has consistently symbolised leaving rather than arriving.
The case that he survives
- Capri rebuilds his body immediately before the fight, which is an odd thing for the show to do if he is simply going to die.
- The construct's stated power is well beyond anything the corporate armies have demonstrated.
- The final shot tilts up to a star that is deliberately left twinkling and unexplained.
- The season's whole thesis is that survival is better than a good death, and D is the character who most needs to learn it.
What Happens to Talia
Talia survives the Badlands, but her recovery is explicitly temporary. The doctor's assessment is that Capri's repairs were a stopgap and that removing her implants will begin a decline the clinic can only slow. Weak takes her out of Night City anyway, and the show frames that as a choice to live rather than a cure.
Her last scene is with Roman. She tells him he is talented, makes him promise to keep filming, and says they will see each other again. It is the closest thing to a happy ending the season offers, and it is deliberately conditional.
What the Last Shot Means
Roman runs off with his camera, excited, and the camera tilts up to a single point of light. Everything in the season has prepared this image: the light Capri pointed at, the star D flew toward, and the reel Roman has been assembling since episode 1.
Read literally, it is a boy filming the sky. Read thematically, it is the season's answer to season 1's moon: the thing you cannot reach, which is nevertheless the reason to keep looking. The show does not tell you which. It just holds the shot.
Will There Be a Season 3?
Nothing has been announced. CD PROJEKT RED and Netflix have not confirmed a third instalment, and the showrunner's comments about knowing what happens next are not a renewal notice. Treat any “season 3 confirmed” headline published in the premiere window as speculation.
What is confirmed is the game side: Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, released October 22, 2026, adds anime-inspired content. Its full breakdown is on a separate page.
