Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Timeline

Where the new series sits relative to David Martinez, the Arasaka tower attack and the events of Cyberpunk 2077 — plus the in-season chronology if you just want the order of events.

When Is Edgerunners 2 Set?

The short answer: after season 1 and around the time of Cyberpunk 2077, in a Night City where Arasaka has been visibly weakened by the events of the game. The show never gives an on-screen year, and CD PROJEKT RED has not published a canonical date.

What the series does establish is the political situation. Characters comment that Arasaka is taking more hits than ever, Kang Tao is aggressively expanding, and rival corporations are circling. That reads as the aftermath of the game's Arasaka Tower assault rather than the pre-2077 period season 1 occupied.

The Full Watch Order

OrderTitleWhy it goes here
1Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)Establishes Night City, chrome culture and the Arasaka dynamic
2Cyberpunk 2077 (optional)Explains Arasaka's weakened state and Soulkiller
3Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (2026)Standalone sequel set after both

You can watch Edgerunners 2 first. It is written as a standalone story with a new cast, and it explains everything it needs to. The season 1 recap covers what you would miss.

In-Season Chronology

The season runs roughly in real time with two meaningful time jumps. Here is the order events actually happen in, as opposed to the order they are revealed.

  1. Years before episode 1: Arasaka's Project Capricorn fails and is shut down. D's clan is wiped out in a botched extraction.
  2. Before episode 1: Talia leaves Kang Tao for Maelstrom and begins installing chrome at an unsafe rate. Avida contacts Weak's crew.
  3. Episode 1: The Arasaka Industrial Park heist. Emily dies. Weak wakes up two months later.
  4. Episodes 2–3: Avida hires Weak. D interrogates Helio. Talia is extracted from Maelstrom and diagnosed.
  5. Episode 4: Capri attaches to D. The Arasaka archive reveals the shared project file.
  6. Episode 5: Capri transfers into Talia. Terminal diagnosis confirmed.
  7. Episodes 6–7: D's public campaign. Project Capricorn explained. Soulkiller plan formed.
  8. Episode 8: The massacre truth. Citywide riot. Avida killed. D captured.
  9. Episode 9: Kiril authorises the installation. Capri takes control. D escapes.
  10. Episode 10: The Badlands. Kyoko's EMP. Kiril dies. D departs. The quiet ending.

Continuity Notes

The season is an anthology sequel, not a continuation. David Martinez is dead, Lucy does not appear, and the only direct connections are thematic and corporate: the same city, the same companies, and a character who shares David's first name.

That name is not a coincidence, but it is also not a resurrection. Episode 7 reveals D's real name is David, and episode 8 confirms he was flagged by Arasaka as a Capricorn host — two separate facts that fans have repeatedly merged into a fan theory the show does not support.
