Who Is Richard?
Richard is the second Kang Tao suit in the room, and his presence is what turns Kiril's decisions from a family matter into company policy. He is the colleague who makes the awful thing procedurally acceptable.
Where Kiril is personally compromised — a wife he no longer controls, a daughter he is willing to overwrite — Richard has no stake beyond the acquisition. That absence of stake is the point.
Richard's Role in Edgerunners 2
His scenes are almost all corporate interiors: meetings, authorisations, decisions taken at a distance from the people they affect. He is the mechanism by which Kang Tao approves an installation that will kill a teenage girl, and he never raises his voice about it.
In the finale, Kang Tao's airstrike order is the logical conclusion of the position Richard represents: when the asset becomes a liability, dispose of it. He is not on the ground in the Badlands, and he does not need to be.
