Who Is Kiril Yang?
Kiril is the season's antagonist in the most literal corporate sense. He is a Kang Tao executive with a composed manner and no visible limit to what he will authorise in order to secure Project Capricorn for his company.
He is also Talia's father, and the show uses that fact as its sharpest piece of irony. He signs off on an installation that will overwrite his daughter's mind — and he does it while telling himself he is saving her.
Kiril's Story in Edgerunners 2
Kiril appears first as a husband managing a difficult family situation. The mask slips quickly. He is the one who assigns Kang Tao assets to the Capri problem, the one who intercepts the Soulkiller heist, and the one who shoots Avida in the confusion.
Episode 9 is his decision point. Told that Talia has very little time left and that Capri's full installation will kill her mind, he gives the order anyway. The show does not present this as a twist; it presents it as the logical end of a man who has always treated people as assets.
He spends the finale being hunted through Night City by a construct wearing his daughter's body, and dies in the Badlands when Kyoko's EMP drops his transport and debris crushes him. It is the death Talia asked for, and the show lets it be ugly.
Relationships
| Character | Relationship | Dynamic |
|---|
| Talia Yang | Daughter | A problem to be managed, then a weapon to be deployed |
| Avida Yang | Wife | A partner in public, an obstacle in private |
| Kyoko | Scientific counterpart | He needs her expertise and despises needing it |
| Richard | Kang Tao colleague | Corporate approval he never quite secures |
Voice Actor and Design
Kiril is voiced by Yasunori Matsumoto in Japanese and Daniel Wu in English. Wu's casting gives the character an easy, expensive calm that makes his decisions worse rather than better.
His design is the most conventionally corporate in the cast — tailored, minimal chrome, a coat that costs more than most Night City apartments. Kang Tao's blue-white palette follows him through the season.
