Who Is Roman Carax?

Roman is the audience surrogate of Edgerunners 2, and the show knows it. He is a teenager who shoots video in a city that has replaced film with braindance, sells footage to a braindance shop because he needs the money, and keeps insisting that there is a difference between recording something and experiencing it.

That argument is the thesis of the season. Every other lead is defined by something they have lost or something they are addicted to; Roman is defined by the fact that he is still choosing what to look at.

Roman's Story in Edgerunners 2

Episodes 1–2: The accidental witness

Roman's first job is supposed to be simple: get footage of Maelstrom for Sal in exchange for a working 35mm camera. Instead he stumbles into Weak's collapsing heist and films the whole thing. Sal pays him 200 eddies for the reel. It is the first time Roman has been paid for something that cost someone their life, and it will not be the last.

He meets D in the same episode, gets rescued, and immediately attaches himself to the story. D tolerates him because Roman can go places a netrunner cannot and because, quietly, he likes having a witness.

Episodes 3–6: Documentarian of a killing spree

Roman interviews D about Snake Nation, helps him plan the Arasaka archive run, and then films the masked raids that turn D into a folk hero. The show is careful here: Roman is not innocent, and he knows what he is doing when he frames a murder as a broadcast.

He is also the only character who talks to Talia as a peer. Their scenes together — the returned camera, the movie date — are the warmest in the season, and they are what makes the finale's goodbye work.

Episodes 7–10: The last shot

Roman brings Kyoko to D, gets driven away for it, and then keeps going anyway. In the Badlands he is the one who keeps filming while everyone else is fighting, which is both his function and his flaw. D's final smile is directed at Roman's lens, not at any other character.

He ends the season physically unharmed and emotionally gutted, running off with his camera after Talia tells him his work matters. The ending explained page unpacks what that last shot is doing.

Voice Actor and Design

Roman is voiced by Momoka Terasawa in Japanese and Valeria Rodriguez in English. Both performances lean young without becoming childish, which is what keeps him from being annoying.

His design is intentionally the least cyberised in the main cast — no chrome arms, no optics, no visible implants. In a show about what people trade for power, Roman's body is the control group.

Trivia and Details

  • Official birthday: July 20. Blood type A.
  • He shoots on a camcorder but keeps a 35mm still camera as backup; the 35mm is what Sal uses to pay him.
  • The show's framing frequently switches to Roman's viewfinder, which changes the aspect ratio and colour grade.
  • He is the only main character who is never seriously injured.
